How It Works
More Information on How our Panels Work
Below you can find out exactly how both of our solar panel systems work.
How a Photovoltaic System Works
- Solar Panels: Convert sunlight instantly into DC electric power.
- Inverter: Converts DC power into standard household AC power for use in the home, synchronizing with utility power whenever the electrical grid is disturbing electricity.
- Existing Electrical Panel: Distributes solar electricity and utility power throughout the house.
- Utility Meter: Actually spins backward when solar electricity generation exceeds house electricity consumption, sending power back to the electric utility for full credit at the retail rate it charges you.
- Utility Power: Is automatically provided at night and also during the day when your demand exceeds your solar production.

Off Grid Solar System
- PV Array: Sunlight Passes through the silicone wafers in the PV modules knocking loose electrons which flow into wires as Direct Current (DC) electricity.
- Combiner Box: The PV modules are wired together in combiner box to output the correct system voltage (VDC)
- Charge Controller: Controls the voltage going into the batteries and maintains the battery bank charge at pre-programmed limits.
- DC Disconnect: System shut-off with circuit breakers and ground fault protection. Required by code to ensure that all parts of system can be disconnected from all sources of power.
- Batteries: Batteries store the energy generated by your system during the day for use at night or on cloudy days.
- Inverter: Direct Current (DC) electricity from the PV Array is converted to Alternating Current (AC) electricity to supply the house loads.
- AC Panel: AC loads are connected here with circuit breakers.
- AC Disconnect: AC output from your inverter and AC power from back-up power sources like generators if used are combined here with circuit breakers.
